Want To Know More?
Season 1
Walt is Michael Dawson’s 10-year-old son (born August 24, 1994), named after Michael’s father. Walt’s mother was Susan Lloyd, an attorney, who rejected marriage with his father, a construction worker and part-time artist.
Through flashbacks, we learned that Walt's mother moved him to Amsterdam as an infant so that she could take an international law job. He spent time in Italy before moving with his mother to Australia, where she married Brian Porter, her boss. After Susan's death, Brian went to see Michael in New York, giving him plane tickets to Sydney to go and get Walt. He told Michael that he didn't want to raise Walt, because strange things happened when the boy was around. When Walt was looking at a book with pictures of birds from Australia, a bird flew into the glass door and was killed.
Walt developed a close friendship on the island with Locke, to Michael's dismay. He burned the original raft because he didn't want to leave the island. Walt was looking at a comic book with a picture of a polar bear in it; when Michael burned the book, Walt was attacked shortly thereafter by a polar bear in the jungle. He told Locke not to open "that thing", apparently referring to the hatch although he had no prior knowledge of it. He was kidnapped by the Others from the raft and taken away on their boat.
Season 2
In flashbacks, we learned that Michael had signed away his parental rights to Walt around the time of the child's second birthday. Before Walt and Susan left for Sydney, Michael gave him a stuffed polar bear.
Walt's whereabouts remained a mystery throughout much of Season 2. He was eventually found by Michael in the Others' camp across the island. Walt revealed to Michael that "they" had been making him take tests, although what type of tests he was talking about is not known. Michael traded Kate, Jack and Sawyer to the Others for Walt, and at the end of Season 2, they were sailing off together in a boat provided to them by the Others.
