Vincent
What you need to know:
Vincent is Walt’s dog and was traveling back to the States with Walt and Michael. It is presumed he was in the cargo hold of Flight 815 during the crash, but he somehow managed to survive and find the crash survivors. Walt gave Vincent to Shannon when he left on the raft.

Vincent belonged to Brian Porter, Walt’s adoptive-father. however, when Michael goes to pick up Walt, he tells Walt that Brian said Walt can have the dog. After the crash, Vincent is missing, but Jack sees him in the jungle. Later, Locke uses a makeshift whistle to call Vincent and gives the dog to Michael to give to his son.
Walt and Vincent appear to have a special bond.
When Walt has to leave on the raft, and there’s no room for Vincent, he gives the dog to Shannon. Walt felt that Vincent might be able to help Shannon get over the loss of her step-brother, Boone, since Walt had personally found it helpful to talk to Vincent after the loss of his mother. She attempts to use Vincent to lead her to Walt after she has visions of him.
Strange things seem to happen when Vincent disappears.
Vincent often reappears before something bad is about to happen to one of the survivors.
Interesting Things to Know:
Vincent means “conquering” in Latin.
