Mystery Status: Unsolved
 The Others are a mysterious group of people who have been on the island for many years. But what their intent is, why they think they are the “good guys” and exactly what their connection to Dharma is, remains a complete mystery (among many other things)
Things You Should Know About:
- They took Danielle’s child, Alex, sixteen years before the crash
- They infiltrated the mid section and tailies camps with the intent of taking those they considered, “the good ones”
- They first appeared dirty and tattered, but appear to use that as a disguise.
- When Claire was held hostage by them, they took her to a Dharma Medical station and appeared to be scientist or doctors of some kind.
- They were VERY interested in Walt because of his apparent abilities
- the fake Henry Gale seems to be their leader, though not necessarily the HIM that is mentioned by Tom (aka The Bearded Man)
- Desmond and Kelvin referred to the Others as Hostiles.

Season 1
Danielle is the first to confirm that there are other people on the island besides them. After capturing Sayid she tells him that they took her baby, Alex, only a week after she was born. She also refers to them as “carriers”. When Sayid questions her about whether or not she has seen other people on the island she responds, “No, but I hear them. Out there, in the jungle. They whisper.” This gives us a possible connection between the whispers several have heard, and the Others.
Claire was later kidnapped by a man calling himself Ethan Rom (an anagram for Other Man). Charlie killed Ethan before it was clear whether or not he was part of the Others or not.
At the end of the season we get to see the Others for the first time. Danielle shows up at the survivors camp and claims that she heard them say that they were going to take the boy. She assumes that they mean Claire’s baby, Aaron. But instead, Tom (aka The Bearded Man), a woman (driving the boat), and two twins intercept Sawyer, Jin, Michael, and Walt on the raft. They take Walt, shoot Sawyer, and blow up the raft with a Molotov cocktail.
Season 2
We learn that Ethan Rom and Goodwin both infiltrated the mid section and tailies camps, armed with a list of people they were to retrieve and take back to Tom (aka The Bearded Man). Goodwin’s group managed to take several of the tailies before Ana Lucia caught on and killed him. Ethan managed to only take Claire, though it was obvious he was supposed to get others as well. Tom’s exact words were, “What am I supposed to tell him? You know what he's going to do when he finds out. Damn it, Ethan.”
Later in the season Henry Gale tells Locke that he was captured by mistake while on his way to get Locke. When Locke asks him why, he responds by saying “You’re one of the good ones, John.”
