The Incident

We've been told almost nothing about specifically what the incident might have been. In the orientation video, in s2-ep3, Dr. Marvin Kandel mentioned that Station 3 was a simple research facility until the incident happened. Here are his comments about the incident:

"Not long after the experiments began, however, there was an incident. And since that time the following protocol has been observed: every 108 minutes the button must be pushed. From the moment the alarm sounds you will have 4 minutes to enter the code into the microcomputer processor [break in the film] induction into the program. When the alarm sounds, either you or your partner must input the code. It is highly recommended that you and your partner take alternating shifts. In this manner you will stay as fresh and alert [break in the film] utmost importance that when the alarm sounds the code be entered correctly, and in a timely fashion. Do not attempt to use the computer [break in the film] for anything [break in the film]"

Another possible clue to the incident was in s2-ep4 when Jack and Sayid are in a crawlspace under the floor of Station 3. Sayid comments that the last time he saw this much concrete being used it was at Chernobyl. Perhaps there was some form of radiation leak due to the nature of the experiments being conducted. Truly we have very little information about this mystery so far.

I don't buy this precognitive insanity rubbish. Look, if the Bearded Wonder could predict the future he wouldn't have ended up here, would he?
