Season 1
Shannon was a spoiled and manipulative young woman who was dependent upon her
stepbrother for many things in her life. While initially being very selfish on the island, Sayid
seemed to bring out some more personable feelings in Shannon before she died.
Through flashbacks, we discovered that Shannon had been in Sydney with a boyfriend,
Bryan. Shannon called Boone to come and rescue her, telling him that Bryan had beaten her.
When Boone arrived, he tried to buy Bryan off with $50,000. Later, Boone tried to get
Shannon to leave with him and learned that it had all been a scheme concocted by Shannon
to get money, and that this wasn't the first time she had done it. Shannon later came to the
hotel where Boone was staying and seduced him, then told him to pretend it never
happened.
Shannon spent her early days on the island sunning herself and waiting to be rescued. Her
knowledge of French came in handy when she was able to translate not only the iteration
transmission on the radio, but also many of the words on Danielle's maps. She held Locke
responsible for the death of her stepbrother Boone and tried to kill him, before being
stopped by Sayid. She agreed to take care of Vincent for Walt before he left on the raft.
Season 2
In flashbacks, we discovered that Shannon had been cut off financially at the age of
eighteen by her stepmother, Sabrina Carlyle after her father's death in a car accident.
Shannon had received an internship at the prestigious Marth Graham Dance Company in
New York City, but Sabrina refused to finance her trip there. Boone tried to get her money
from Sabrina but was unable to do so. He offered to help her when his trust fund kicked in
at the end of the month, but Shannon refused his help.
After the raft left the island, Shannon began having visions of a wet Walt in the jungle,
whispering to her. She tries to tell the other survivors what she saw, but they don't believe
her. After she spends a romantic evening with Sayid, she sees Walt again, and goes running
after him. Sayid follows, and the two of them see Walt. Ana Lucia shoots and kills
Shannon, mistaking her for one of the Others, as her group is approaching the beach camp.
