Rose
What you need to know:
Rose is from The Bronx, New York. She is married to Bernard, who was in the bathroom when Flight 815 broke apart and crashed on the Island. Rose firmly believes her husband, and other tail section passengers, are still alive and on the island. Rose is a person of faith, and she is seen as a motherly figure by the survivors and helps them through difficult situations. She also recognizes the sound the mechanical sound the monster makes in s1-ep1, “The Pilot- Part 1”.
Wanna know more?
Rose was seated across the aisle from Jack on the plane, and he tries to comfort her during turbulence right before the crash. She tells Jack that her husband is in the restroom at the back of the plane. She also tells him that when Bernard flies, his fingers swell, so she is wearing his wedding ring on a chain around her neck to keep it safe.
In s1-ep4, “Walkabout”, Rose refused to believe that Bernard is dead; insisting to everyone that he is definitely still alive, because she’d be able to feel it if he wasn’t. According to Rose, Bernard has a sweet tooth; she is saving an Apollo Bar from Station Three for him.
In s1-ep12, “Whatever the Case May Be”, Rose is able to comfort Charlie as he works through his own redemptive process. She is a woman of faith, and tells Charlie, “It’s a fine line between denial and faith. It’s much better on my side.”
In s2-ep4, “Everybody hates Hugo”, Rose is seen again, for the first time since the beginning of season 1. She helps Hurley to inventory the food, and gives words of comfort, near the end, to keep Hurley from doing something foolish, and hurting someone.
Rose and Bernard are reunited when he and the other tail-section survivors join the main camp.
Interesting Things to Know:
Rose means “a flower” in Latin and Greek. Roses are associated with secrecy.
