Nathan
What you need to know:
Nathan was first seen the first night, just before the first three tailies were taken by the Others. Ana soon suspected him of being one of the Others. He had disappeared for two hours during day 12, just before nine more tailies, including the kids, were taken by The Others. He claimed he was using the bathroom.

He apparently has some waste-related issues; on two seperate occasions it is noted that he was “using the bathroom” for about two hours: first while on the flight, where no one saw him, and later when he returned from the jungle. Thanks to this habit, he became Ana Lucia’s primary suspect as to who was betraying the Tailies to The Others.
Ana threw Nathan into a deep hole for four days without food or water, trying to get him to confess where the children and other Tailies were. He admitted being from Canada and said that he was on a business retreat in Australia. He had decided to stay for several more days for site seeing. None of the rest of the tailies remembers seeing Nathan on the plane, but he swears that he was, and said they didn’t see him because he was in the restroom.
Goodwin lets Nathan out of the hole on the 23rd day on the island, in s2-ep7, “The Other 48 Days”. He gives him some food, tells him the direction and distance to the beach, and then, as Nathan walks away, Goodwin, the actual “Other”, grabs him and snaps his neck.
There appears to be a lot of speculation that Nathan might have been in cahoots with Goodwin and actually one of the Others. This seems unlikely, since Goodwin had to give him food and tell him where to go to get to the beach. If he was one of the Others, he would have known where to go.
Interesting Things to Know:
Nathan/Nathaniel means “Gift of God” in Hebrew. Nathan can also be a nickname for Jonathan, which means “God has given” in Hebrew.
