Par Avion confirmed one of the worst kept secrets in the history of
Lost: Claire is Jack's half sister. Suprising? No, but it is no small
feat to have the writers finally confirm something on Lost. Claire’s
emotional flashback gave us the details of her reunion with father,
Christian Sheppard. The absentee father comes to Claire’s rescue after
a car accident critically injures her mother. In classic Christian
style, he tries to get Claire to pull the plug on her mother before
leaving Claire for good.
Back on the island, Claire comes up with a creative rescue plan. Using her extensive knowledge of the Discovery Channel, she decides to catch migrating tagged birds which she has noticed on the beach. Her plan? To attach a rescue note to one's leg and send it on its way in hopes that when the tag is read, the note will be found. This is the first time since Michael's pair of rafts and Bernard’s failed SOS plan that one of the Losties has actually tried to get themselves rescued. Claire’s plan hits a snag when Desmond’s attempt at saving Charlie keeps interfering. In a shocking lost moment, Desmond actually confides in Claire about his ability to see into the future and prevent Charlie from dying. To make peace, Desmond captures one of the birds that Charlie would have died trying to catch, and gives it to Claire. A satisfied Claire, along with Charlie, attaches a touching note to the bird and releases it into the sky.
On the other side of the island, Mikhail taunts Danielle, John, Kate and Sayid with the dreaded list. Seems that they were not on the list because they are flawed, angry, weak and frightened. What is not clear, is if he was describing each individual (looked at Kate when he said flawed, at John when he said angry, Danielle with weak and Sayid with frightened) or referencing them as a whole. Danielle interrupted Mikhail when he was about to announce that the John Locke he knew was paralyzed. The party makes their way to the outer confines of Otherville where they encounter an out of this world looking security fence. John continues his recent streak of impulsive moves by shoving Mikhail into the fence. Mikhail gets some kind of sonic brain melt that adds another to the Lostie’s kill tally. After Danielle, Kate, John and Sayid make it over the perimeter fence they finally make it to downtown Otherville. Cliffhanger time comes when an apparently escaping Jack is actually playing football with Tom. Kate and the rest of Lost world is stunned.
As in every episode of Lost there are many answers and even more questions. We now know that Claire and Jack are step-siblings. Charlie told us that it was day 80 on the island. They got a rescue note off the island on a migrating bird. Christian went to see Aunt Lindsey, not Claire’s mother during season 2. The submarine can leave, but cannot come back to the island. Claire knows about Desmond predicting Charlie’s death.
Questions came in bunches. Why is Aunt Lindsey so angry with everyone? Will the bird make it safely and will anyone read the note? Why does Danielle interrupt Mikhail when he is about to talk about John’s paralysis? And what is going on with John? He lies about knowing about the C4, has some of the C4, shoves Mikhail into the fence and is looking very suspicious of late. The main question is, What is John thinking??
