  • Claire mentioned a strange violet color in the sky
  • A loud buzzing sound was heard
  • Several items, including the Quarantine door, were thrown into the air and landed near or on the beach.
  • Same noise was heard by Eko in S2E21 during one of the dream sequences.
  • After the White Glow, a listening post station in an artic area seemed to detect the island.

Season 2

In the final episode of season 2, Desmond is forced to use his fail safe key after Locke lets the countdown timer run out. After turning the key, a blinding white glow is seen by the Flight 815 survivors on the beach, as well as by the group of Others that have Jack, Sawyer, Kate, and Hurley held captive on the other side of the island. There is a painful buzzing noise that they all also appear to hear, and it’s a sound that matches what Eko heard while talking to Yemi during a dream or hallucination he was having in episode 21, ?.

The White Glow also appears to have had an abundant amount of force, because the quarantine door at the hatch, which was extremely heavy, was blown into the air, and landed on the beach, at least a mile away. It should also be mentioned that the Others, and specifically Ben, seemed to not be very concerned about the white glow.

Immediately following the White Glow, men in a Listening Station in a cold climate area detected a magnetic anomoly and contacted Penny Widmore.

Season 3

The White Glow has a broad effect on the island. It is reported by Tom on seperate occasions that it has cut off their communications with the outside world, and disabled the underwater beacon used by the submarine to find the island.

After Desmond turns the fail-safe key the Swan Hatch implodes. This has a strange effect on everyone in the hatch at the time. Strangely enough, no one dies from the implosion. Locke is rendered speechless. Charlie has no memory of what happened. Eko is somehow dragged by a polar bear to it's den. Most unusual of all is Desmond, who experiences a kind of "jump" in time, where he relives a pivotal time in his life, while experienceing premonitions that show him where he can alter his future. When he is brought back to present time, these flashes continue, mostly involving the death of Charlie.

The fact that the fail-safe key halted whatever was about to happen does prove that the numbers being entered was actually necessary.
