Well what an episode, definitely one of my favourites this
season, after the pretty lousy one last week.
I wouldn’t say that the first few scenes were particular
important to the episode, but we find out that Locke’s mother was pregnant at a
young age, run over by a car, and decided that she couldn’t deal with having a
child. She seemed to think it was very
important to name him John though, almost like a life or death situation! That’s something I’d wondered about.
The next weird thing was that Ben said he had no idea where
the cabin is, I found this a little odd since he took John to it before
hand. He said Hugo’s the last one that
saw it, as if it was a bunch of keys that had been lost. So we can probably deduce that the cabin
moves.
Keamy and his crew arrive back, intent on getting revenge
and torching the entire island.
Something that we did later find out is that he couldn’t care less who
he kills, just as long as he gets what he wants. He later kills that captain of the ship and
the doctor all to prove a point, and get Frank to fly the helicopter.
Moving on to John’s vision, we meet Horace again. He tells John that he is building a cabin for
him and his wife to find him, and he’ll find the cabin and Jacob. He also explains that if he can find him, he
will find the cabin. Another little
thing to note is that he says he’s been dead for 12 years (so this means in
1992 Ben gassed the DHARMA Initiative).
Richard Alpert, the mysterious never aging man, is now
present in the hospital looking at John as a baby, this obviously shows that he
knows something more about John. Perhaps
Jacob told him about John. The next
encounter is when John is a child. He is
playing backgammon when he is greeted by Richard, who runs a ‘special
school’. What was interesting is the
test that he performed. I’m not quite
sure which object, if any would pass him.
It was interesting that he picked up the knife, as this relates to his
hunting on island.
Back on island Locke is digging through the mass grave of
the DI workers, to find Horace’s body.
When he does he pulls out a set of blue prints, including a map of where
the cabin was located. This is
contradictory to the idea that the cabin moves!
On the Freighter the captain agrees to let Sayid sneak the
tender to ferry people back from the beach.
Now here’s something that I found VERY interesting…John is doing
physiotherapy or the such-like after the incident with his father, then he is
put in a wheelchair and who is pushing it, but non other than Matthew Abaddon,
the mysterious man who was in a brief with Naomi a while back, seemingly in
charge of the mission. He tells John
that he should go on a walkabout! My crazy question is did the plane crash all
to get John on the island?!
On the island again, at the beach a helicopter fly’s across
and a backpack hurtles to the ground.
Inside is a satellite phone, with the tracking map up. Jack assumes that they want them to follow,
but did Frank do it so that they would be able to stay out of harms way? I’m sure we will see a discussion about it
amongst the Losties in the next episode.
Finally the turning point of the episode, when they finally
find the shack. John enters to see
Christian, who says he can speak on behalf of Jacob. As for how he came into this position I have
no ideas. Then Claire is revealed to us,
but I’d hazard a guess that she is dead, if she is indeed with Christian. The chances of the other Losties seeing her
again are pretty slim, and the reason Christian said not to tell them, is
because she wasn’t actually alive.
Anyhow Locke comes out of the shack and says we need to ‘move’ the
island! Now how the hell are they going
to manage that?
Theories & discussion welcome!

Hi everyone, sorry I didn't get an initial reactions post out last week. I've had a lot going on at home... I'll post up initial reactions as usual tonight after the episode.
Once again, sorry about my absense from the site, but I'm back for good now anyway
Thanks,

Well I've had all kinds of hell with my computer and
internet recently, so sorry for the delay! I won't bother putting up a
pictures this week, just in case my internet goes down whilst I'm uploading!
Once of the first things I noticed was that the mercenaries knew about the
sonic fence, so why did they not know about the failsafe? Code was
1622. My guess is that the phone wasn't set up especially for Ben, simply
to warn the DHARMA folk about the hostiles.
Ben woke up in the middle of the Sahara with
Dr Hallowaxes coat (the guy from the Orchid orientation). How did that
happen? This was in 2005, presumably after the Losties got off of the
island, so why was Ben still wearing a DHARMA coat.
Something interesting is that Sawyer seems to show a lot of compassion for
Claire. He risked his life in the effort to save her! This doesn't
really tie in with the Sawyer that we know.
Ok, so in the next flashforward we find out that Ben is a 'preferred' guest,
and he introduces himself as Dean Moriarty. I can't recall hearing this
name before. An interesting link is when Ben notices Sayid on the TV,
hounded by the press. This will play a little more importance later.
Ben says that 'there is only one person who can help us now, Jacob.'
Something else that I found interesting is that he said 'we have to go to him
together.' This leads me to believe that Ben's interest in Locke (even
dating back to season 2) is all linked with Jacob.
The next thing we know is that Ben is in Iraq. He says to Sayid that
he got off the island with Desmond's boat, and chartered a plane. If this
is the case, why did he wake up in the middle of the Sahara
and not in an airport?
Miles seemed really, really shook up about the mercenaries. He was trying
to convince Ben to talk to them, my guess is that it's because he knows exactly
what they are capable of.
So now we get into the most interesting bit of the episode, Ben goes into his
secret room, and opens another secret door, followed by him pushing a solid
rock into another passage. The next thing we know is that ol'smokey is out
killing all in its path. Ben has control over the smoke monster!
So Daniel lies about the message, but Bernard has an ace up his sleeve and
reveals the real message, that the doctor is fine.' Is the doctor on the
ship, or is it the people onboard covering up for something. I'd go with
the latter. Daniel then reveals that they never planned to get them
off of the island, something we'd already guessed!
The next point of interest was the way that some of the Losties returned to
Jack, leaving just Hurley, and Ben. Hurley stays with Locke, probably because
he wants to make some sense about the cabin that he saw.
Finally Ben visits Charles Widmore's house and threatens to kill Penny, so that
Charles will know what it feels like to have his daughter killed. Charles
explains that it is his island, and always was and that he'll get it
back. Perhaps this indicates that Charles was part of the Hanso
Foundation, and that is why he owns the island. This would also explain
how his
team were able to get maps and information about the island.
Theories and discussion welcome as always.

According to Ask Ausiello, Team Dalton is in negotiations with ABC to produce an additional hour of Lost this season. This is not close to a done deal, but the possibility is very exciting!! There are plenty of scheduling conflicts that could sideline this proposal before it gets off the ground. The schedule is set for Lost to start on April 24th and end with a night of finales of Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy. So would this postpone the season finale one week or do the put it on a different night. Could we get two hours in one week!! This could get us closer to the original idea they had for this season and give us a more complete season 4. We will update you here at SWLS as this story develops. Also Kristin is reporting that the additional hour is looking "highly likely". Very good news indeed!

I felt that it was necessary to do some investigating, and give some timeline perspective for Michael's flashback scene's within 4x08, Meet Kevin Johnson.
Michael left the island on Day 67, which was November 27, 2004 according to the timeline at SWLS.
Naomi arrives on the island on Day 86, which was December 16, 2004
So
the events of Michaels flashback seems to have taken place at some
point between these two dates. But we can narrow it down even further.
Tom is very prominent during season 3. Here are the dates that I could lock down pretty solid in which Tom is either mentioned or has speaking parts based on transcripts of the show.
3x01, 3x02, 3x04, 3x06, 3x07, 3x09, 3x12, 3x13, 3x19, 3x20,
3x22, and 3x23. The dates of these episodes are:
11/28/04, 11/29/04, 11/30/04, 12/3/04, 12/10/04, 12/11/04 (from 3x19), 12/16/04 (from 3x19), 12/19/04, 12/20/04.
So
when looking at these dates it seems fairly obvious that there is only
one stretch of time when Tom could have gone to visit Michael, and that
was between December 3 and December 10. I think 7 days is reasonable
enough for Tom to have made it off the island and back, if we assume that they aren't only using the sub to get places. My assumption is the sub is only used to get somewhere nearby that they can then fly where ever they need to go. I'll also
mention that December 10 is the day that Locke blew up the sub, though obviously Ben found a way off the island that didn't include the sub in the flash-forwards.

Last week's episode of lost, Ji Yeon, had us following Sun and Jin in
an interesting flash-forward/ flash-back combination episode. We
watched as Sun, screaming for Jin "Michael Style" had her baby in an
obvious flash-forward as Jin ran around the city buying panda bears,
breaking his cell phone, and threatening to kill cab stealers. To put
it simply, while watching this episode live I was underwhelming with
the plot and soap opera-ish style that never really got me excited for
the whole hour. However, in hindsight I think that episode wasn't as
terrible as I felt it was while watching it. For Ji Yeon, the whole was
greater than the sum of its parts.
It took me quite some time to realize that we were watching a flashback
for Jin. Up to that point I wasn't too terribly disappointed in the
episode, but once that revelation was clear, I immediately started
asking myself why we were forced to watch so much wasted screentime of
Jin running around the city with a stuff panda bear? His flashback
scenes ended up being nothing more than a parlor trick by the writers
to keep up this continual "is this a flashforward or a flashback"
guessing game. I for one am getting a little tired of this game being
played out each week.
